Marten stone (martes fonia). In Belarus the stone marten is a rare, native kind of fauna. Last years it meets in many areas of a southern part of Belarus, especially located to the east (Narovlyansky, Khoyniksky, Vasilevichsky areas), it is found out also in some areas of central Belarus (Minsk, Baranovichsky, Slonimsky, Novogrudsky, Kopylsky areas) and even in northern areas of Belarus (Beshenkovichsky, Chashniksky areas). Unlike wood marten the stone marten prefers to live in districts that haven't much forest, often gravitates to human settlements. In villages and small cities it settles in thrown houses, structures of type of warehouses, storehouses, industrial premises, in hollows of trees of old parks, sometimes in heaps of stones and bricks, in warehouses of logs and even in jacks of storks. Except for the person, the adult marten of enemies has not enough. Only casually some of them can fall prey of dogs for example. In places where the stone marten is a usual kind, it is not only extracted as a valuable fur animal, but also is pursued for the damage that it puts to the poultry. In Belarus this rare kind of animals has not the hunting value.
