Grey goose

Bean goose (anser fabalis). In Belarus geese extract more often casually, hunting on ducks and as on a duck the overwhelming part of hunters leaves only in August the quantity of shot geese is insignificantly small. Nevertheless, at special examination of local movements of geese and their behavior hunting for these birds can be rather successful. In Belarus geese meet only on spring and autumn flights, usually in October and April. They concentrate usually in the meadows of the flat rivers, in vicinities of the various reservoirs located among extensive spaces of winter fields or other farmland. During this period the rhythm of their life submits to the strict schedule. At a dawn the geese that spent the night on the islands or on the shallows of reservoirs, rise on a wing and fly on the chosen places of feeding: winter fields, harvested fields of peas and corn. If there are some puddles among the fields, birds spend all the day on them; if the fields are dry, the birds fly close to the water where satisfy thirst and clean plumage. Then it moves on to the places of feeding. With the approach of twilight birds fly away to reservoirs where already in full darkness leave on islands, sand banks and open coasts. The places of feeding, of watering and of the overnight stay are constant enough, as well as ways of flight between them. For hunting on geese it is necessary to distinguish correctly their basic kinds, as among geese many the rare kinds brought in the Red book.
Grey goose unlike other geese occasionally nests in Prypiatskoe Polesye and on the region of Vitebsk. On appearance it is very similar to house geese of grey painting. In the sizes it is the largest kind among geese. The general tone of plumage of males and females is whitish-grey, uropygium is white. On a breast and a forward part of a belly, especially at ganders, randomly scattered black spots are well appreciable. A beak is of pale-corporal color, paws are lilac-tinged-pink. At distant flights geese fly usually in a corner and at the big height. A voice of grey goose is loud like a trumpet shout, transferred with the sounds "ga-ga-ga".
